End of an Era
In case you are living under a rock, Clinton and Ron just closed the theory forums on the Forge.
On the one hand, this is a long time coming. The forums have been distracting from the main mission of the site. They have been full of some serious pie-in-the-sky, and a lot of people letting their emotional response to theory get in the way of discussing theory.
On the other hand, I'm really sad. I came up through the Theory forums (my path on the Forge: Riddle of Steel -> RPG Theory -> GNS Model Discussion -> RPG Theory -> Indie Game Design -> Actual Play -> Publishing, Connections, and Conventions). If they hadn't been there, I probably would have never designed Polaris.
So I'm feeling very mixed about it.
I should go write some essays.
P.S. Thanks to Emily for posting this for me. I won't be able to reply to any comments, or post anything new, because I'm behind a national firewall. Thanks for understanding.
