New Feature
I'm toying with a new feature for this blog, which I think I would call "This is your Game." The basic idea is that someone submits their game, with power-19, for feedback, and I and other commentors comment. The idea is to have a more focused, directed set of comments than the Forge forums give.

How would you select what game to comment? You'll probably get a lot of people who would like their game dissected.
Heya Ben,
Let me know if/how I can support your effort in this. I think it's a killer idea.
Peace,

That is an excellent idea. Lack of focus is why I don't read Indie Design very often.
I mean this from both standpoints, too. As someone willing to give feedback and someone sometimes looking for it. Structure helps a lot. I don't always know how to respond to vague rambling posts. That, and it takes more time out of my schedule to mine long posts for what really matters.
Who would comment on the games? How would you select which games would recieve feedback and which wouldn't?
I really like the idea. I'm just curious about the details.

Hi Ben,
I'd love to participate, on both ends. But mostly on the "get my game kicked in the brain by people smarter than me" end.
Selection would have the following priorities:
1) People who are new to progressive design get first priority.
2) Participants in previous "This is your Game" get second priority.
3) People who are old-hand forgies get second-to-last priority.
4) People who have already self-published games get absolutely last priority.
But, really, I'm just going to be picking out games that I think have good potential, and we'll work from there. These priorities are completely subject to that concern.
Commentary would be in public, on this blog. Anyone would be welcome to comment, of course, but the difference is that we're all focused on one game at a time and that I'm closely moderating discussion -- if I don't think someone is doing something productive, I'll shut them down. Likewise, I'll shut down authors who are getting defensive.
I'd love to run apocalypse girl through exactly this kind of wringer once I've got the revisions done. And I'd happily participator in the wringing of others, too.
But: While the "Power 19" are pretty useful, the real checklist I want to be measured against is Vincent's "a complete game has...." (http://www.lumpley.com/comment.php?entry=44).
I won't make a long-term commitment, but would certainly comment on the first game (or games) in this process!
Hey, :)
I'd love to put my game through this. Where do I sign up?
Cheers,
J.
I'd be up for it, either way. I can't guarantee my comments would be that useful or germane, though.
